Your Personal Safety Plan

If you are in a relationship that makes you feel unsafe, having a plan is one of the most powerful steps you can take. A safety plan is a set of actions you can prepare for in advance to increase your safety and the safety of your loved ones.

What does a safety plan include?

A strong safety plan is personalized to your unique situation. It helps you think through and organize crucial details like:

  • Safe places you can go at a moment's notice.

  • A list of trusted people you can contact for help.

  • A "go bag" with essential items (documents, keys, medication, cash).

  • Ways to cope with emotions and practice self-care.

  • How to safely navigate leaving, or how to increase safety if you are not ready or able to leave.
