Peace Beside Still Water: A Survivor’s Monthly Reflection

Peace beside still water has become more than an image for me; it has become a sacred reminder of what restoration can feel like when the soul is no longer forced to live in survival mode. As a survivor turned thriver and as the Founder and CEO of Say Your Name, Inc., I have learned that peace is not passive. Peace is something we protect, practice, and sometimes have to rebuild one breath at a time.
Still water teaches me that healing does not always announce itself loudly. Sometimes it comes quietly, through a moment of rest, a safer boundary, a trusted voice, or the courage to sit with yourself without fear. In the work I do with survivors, I am reminded often that restoration is not only about leaving what harmed us; it is also about returning to the places within us where dignity, faith, and self-trust can live again.
There are days when leadership requires movement, advocacy, planning, and public voice. But there are also sacred days when leadership requires stillness—when I must remember that the mission of Say Your Name, Inc. begins with the same truth I offer to others: survivors deserve to be seen, believed, protected, and supported as they reclaim safety, dignity, and healing. Sometimes it is the courage to sit beside peace long enough to recognize restoration.
This month, I invite you to find your own still water. It may be a quiet room, a morning prayer, a journal page, a walk outside, or one uninterrupted moment where your spirit can breathe. Peace beside still water reminds us that healing is not always hurried, loud, or visible to others. This month, may you find one quiet place where your spirit can be held without hurry.
In Service and Restoration,
Dr. Whitlock
Remember: You are entirely too vibrant to remain hidden. Step into the light; your story is worth telling.
