Say Your Name: Reclaiming Your Identity

Glittery red poster reading WHO ARE WE? WE ARE STRONG WOMEN in white text.

“Your name is not a label assigned by your circumstances, nor is it a shadow cast by your past; it is the first declaration of your personal sovereignty and the foundation upon which you speak your truth.

We live in a culture that frequently attempts to define individuals by the challenges they have survived or the crises they have navigated. Too often, the world hands out clinical labels that minimize a person's identity, trapping them in a narrative written entirely by external events, societal definitions, or the actions of others. This subtle boxing-in can cause an individual to forget that their true identity belongs uniquely to them, completely detached from any storm they have weathered. When you allow outside circumstances or the opinions of others to dictate your title, you inadvertently hand over the authority over your own destination. True reclamation begins when you consciously strip away those assigned labels, refuse to answer to them any longer, and choose to define your own existence from the inside out. Let this truth serve as your unwavering, breathing anchor throughout the week ahead.

To truly understand the weight of this reclamation, we can look back to ancient biblical history, where names were never chosen lightly or treated as mere casual markers. In biblical times, a name was instrumental and deeply intentional; it was a profound reflection of a person’s character, their spiritual destiny, and the very core of their soul's calling. Names were so bound to a person's true identity that when an individual experienced a profound transformation or stepped into a higher purpose, a physical renaming often took place to break the chains of where they had been. Abram became Abraham, Sarai became Sarah, and Jacob—after wrestling through the night—was given the name Israel. These were not cosmetic changes; they were deliberate, sovereign acts that completely severed those individuals from their past limitations and established their standing in a new covenant of promise and authority.

When you make the decision to reclaim your identity, and stand flat-footed in the power of your own identity today, you are participating in that exact same sacred tradition of restoration. You are taking back the pen from those who tried to write your story for you, and you are declaring that your past no longer has the right to name your future. Reclaiming your name is an act of profound, revolutionary courage—it is a decree to the world that your volume will no longer be turned down and your presence will no longer be minimized by the noise of old narratives. It forces the environment around you to adjust to your boundaries, rather than forcing you to shrink just to fit the comfort of others. Seek out connections, paths, and spaces that call you by your true name, honor your standard, and amplify your inherent worth. Remember that you hold the absolute, final authority to command respect for your narrative, and the words you choose to speak about yourself are the only ones that carry permanent weight. Today, I want you to Say Your Name and Reclaim Your Identity.
